17 Again
He's the high school heart throb who dances and is the main man on the basketball team, yet this isn't another instalment of the high school musical franchise. Zack Efron's first movie away from the whole singing and dancing routine (HSM's, Hairspray) is here and this is what we thought of it.
The movie 17 again follows Mathew Perry a 30 something year old man whose life isn't going anywhere, his career path has slowly come to a standstill, and his family life isn't much better either. Family life is so bad actually that his wife asks for a divorce and he barely knows his children at all.
Wouldn't it be great if Mathews Character was given a second chance? Well here comes an old school janitor to help him out, and bipity bopoty boo Mathew Perry's character has now awaken as the 17 year old that he was back in the day and armed with a k-fed attire goes on a mission (or a spirit guide) to improve his life style, and build back the relationships with his kids and eventually his wife.
Zack convinces his best friend to play along with the situation and has him to pretend to be his dad so that he can get back into high school, needless to say everything goes to plan and we are back in high school, however as Zack soon realises his kids are in just as much trouble as he is. Zacks daughter is dating the high school jock that is going nowhere fast and Zacks son is the constant butt of the joke by the basketball team who constantly bully him and play many a practical joke on him.
Watching 17 again I was highly surprised not only was I enjoying the movie but I also enjoyed Zack Efron's performance as the 30yearold man boy. The story to this movie is pretty silly but for a romantic comedy does it really matter? 17 again offers plenty of laughs when it needs to and doesn't feel silly when it want to be serious. I can't say enough good words about Zack Efron in this movie as he pretty much carries the whole movie on his own, the onscreen chemistry between the 17year old boy and the 30 something old woman should feel wrong however Zack and Leslie Mann (Zacks Wife) have plenty of sparks and you will find yourself whishing them back together.
Strong performances, a funny plot and if you're a Zack Efron fan should be enough to convince you to see this movie, if it doesn't maybe our movie review rating will. Mytvtalk.com awards 17 again 3 out of 5 stars and is a definite watch for anyone who is a fan of comedies.
