American Psycho Movie Review

American Psycho not only follows but delves into the world of Patrick Bateman. Bateman (Bale) is a wealthy wall street type guy who loves the fine life whether its looking after his skin by using various cosmetic products or wearing the latest most expensive designer suits, however Bateman has a little secret he likes to hire prostitutes and call girls and he also likes to kill them, Patrick Bateman lives the double life, wall street broker by day, psychotic serial killer by night.

Bateman takes his cues from the outside world, this could be anything such as what to wear, where to eat, who to be seen with, what to listen to and who to date. Bateman cares so much what other people think of him that when he and his work colleagues are showing off their business cards he gets very angry that his card isn't the best and ends up hacking one of the men who have a better card than himself with an axe.

Bales performance as Bateman was excellent all through out this movie and even though he was playing a psychotic killer his charisma often made Bateman's character funny and likeable. There's also a nice little twist towards the end of this movie, which leaves the audience question, did Bateman really kill all these people? Well the full answer is I don't know, even the characters in the movie didn't believe Bateman, when he confessed his murders to his colleagues they either didn't hear him or simply brushed it off as a simple joke.

From the strong dialogue to the great acting by Bale and his co stars American Psycho is a really good movie that maybe hasn't got all the attention it deserves. The movie is often funny at times and gruesome at others but never loses track of where it's going. American Psycho is awarded 4 out of 5 stars.
